SIDE W/O ESCORT & FULLY DEPENDENT ON E-GOVERNANCE CORRESPONDENCE SYSTEM]
REDUCING
HIGHEST RATE OF INTEREST CHARGED AGAINST PERSONAL LOAN OF RUPEES ONE LAKH FIFTY
THOUSAND FROM STATE BANK OF INDIA FROM A SENIOR CITIZEN RETIRED GOVERNMENT
SERVANT (68+YRS), ENTIRE RIGHT SIDE OF BODY PARALYZED, DISABLED (60%), CANNOT
MOVE OUT SIDE WITH OUT ESCORTS FOR WHAT SO EVER REASONS, UNABLE TO EARN A
SINGLE FURTHING DUE TO EXTREME DISABILITY
Under extreme compelled circumstance I had to apply
for Sr.Citizen, pensioner’s loan for an amount of Rs.1.5 lks in connection with
marriage of my daughter on 27.06.2010 from SBI / TNT Branch (05680),
Kolkata-700040 to meet expanses for daughter’s marriage.. Initially in
accordance with prevailing bank’s rules as a Sr. Citizen pensioner I was
eligible to get Rs.1.10 lks only. I had requested Chairman / SBI to grant me a
loan of Rs.1.5 lks taking into consideration that not only I am a
Sr.Citizen but also a Paralyzed Disabled cannot move out side for whatsoever
purpose [Persons With
Disability cases are not considered at SBI Bank’s rule]. Chairman / SBI had kindly approved my request.
Accordingly a loan of Rs.1.5 lks was sanctioned and
deduction of loan & interest element @ Rs. 5342/- per month [36
installments] started w.e.f 02-08-2010. Interest element fixed for this loan is was unusual highest rate of 14.75%
on total amount sanctioned to me.
As a Sr.
Citizen, Paralyzed Disabled (60%), entire right side of body fully paralyzed
but can only operate computer with unusual left hand to communicate rest part
of world in connection with social welfare works for aged disabled persons,
cannot move out side with out escorts, have no other income sources except
small pension amount having burden maintaining family including an unemployed
son, compelled to stay at Kolkata on a rented house to avail medical facility,
time to time essential check up of post stroke sickness elements. It becomes
very much difficult for me in these hard days to bear a higher rated interest
element of 14.75% which virtually & seriously tells upon me & my
dependents. Market price had gone through the roof by this time and as a result
there of considering the financial constraints Government had to increase M.P.
Vatha from Rs. 15,000/- to Rs. 50,000/- Incidentally it is to mention that rate
of interest charged towards loan H.B.Advace & Purchase of Car up to Rs. 20
/ 25 lakhs are 8 to 10% only where as loan to an aged disabled
can’t earn a farthing is 14.75% - unbelievable!!!!. It is further
surprising to note that although The President & Prime Minister of India
expressed their deep concern for PWDs and directed to extend possible help to
PWDs – State Bank of India do not hesitate to declare BOLDLY that they do not have any scheme for
Persons With Disability.
Under the circumstance I had request the Government on
15.03.2012 followed by series of reminders to kindly consider reducing interest
element on loan from Rs. 14.75% to a bearable moderate interest between 8
to 9% so that this extreme old aged disabled can get some financial relief
at the fag end on earth. Since Branch Manager / SBI / TNT Studio (05680),
Kolkata-700040 had stated both orally & through written confirmation that
he has no powers to decrease or increase an interest element of a loan, prayer
has been made to the highest authority of SBI for necessary action. [Incidentally
it is to mention that the entire staff of SBI / TNT Studio Branch are very
cordial and helpful to this extreme disabled]
Although prayer was made on 15-03-2012 SBI authority remained silent till a letter “NON SYMPATHIC DEALINGS BY STATE BANK OF INDIA TO A SR.CITIZEN, PARALYZED DISABLED PENSIONER” dated 20-11-2012 was issued by me. Immediately AGM / Customer / SBI
from SBI assured justice to cases of Persons with Disability (PWD) vide letter
dated 04-12-2012. [Copy of
both the letters placed at attachment “AGM / SBI assurance” for ready appreciation].
Unfortunately the assurance of SBI turns to be a fake one as nothing has been
done towards reducing Highest rate
of Interest charged for a simple loan granted to an aged extreme disabled government
poor pensioner, can’t move outside and earn a single farthing. Reduction of
highest interest charged was made on 15.03.2012 when only 20th EMI
was paid. Now out of 36 EMI @ Rs.5,342/- 34th EMI has since been
paid but assurance as well as SBI remains completely silent. In this context it
is mentioned that any type of TOKEN
CONSIDERATION in lieu of what has been prayed based on various
justifications, explanations, situations financial considerations furnished
will NOT be treated as a help to this
extreme Disabled Person. Incidentally one eminent social welfare
worker of New Delhi i.e Shivani Gupta has observed as follows on fb as
“It is really shameful that a nationalized bank has no consideration for
disability and the elderly while giving a loan. Your comparison to the car loan
brings out how opportunistic the banking system is” This type of negative
dealings to aged extreme disabled persons are not at all desirable and should invariably be
avoided by State Bank of India, a Nationalized Scheduled Bank. Thanking you

for every one.
